OKAY... SOMEONE STOLE MY BRAIN AND I WANT IT BACK ... difficulty concentrating!

I'm on round 2, day 14 of P2. First round was great! but I think somethings up with this second round. The last week or so I've been unable to stay focused, I can't concentrate, I can't think. I'm even having a hard time writing this. Had a hard time following "housewives of new york" lastnight ... helloooo. This is like being back in the 70's again. I had to use a program with spell check because I knew I was spelling words wrong, but couldn't get my brain to work enough to correct them. Couldn't even finish our taxes! I dropped everything off at the CPA's and had to apologize for the huge mess I'm leaving her with...ka-ching ka-ching. I feel good, not hungry, or tired ... just really stupid. I'm having a hard time even forming sentences. When talking I feel like I'm trying to communicate in a foreign language that I don't speak. Don't get me started on my driving. Does anyone know what's going on. I'm trying to make light of this, but it really isn't funny.

Same here on my first round but I'm not far enough into the second to tell if what I put in place is making a difference.

For my first P2, I'd leave the stove on every time I cooked. Walking out of one room into another was an adventure because I couldn't remember why. Remembering the names of things? Hah! Forget it.

And the emotional roller coaster ride, well, well. I haven't had that in years. And while tearing up when reading dooce.com is ok, the impatience I'm feeling towards people is not.

So this round I've told my friends that I love them bunches but it's best that I don't see them for awhile. That way I can be braindead and temperamental without an audience (who just happens to have a long memory).
I started with homeopathic drops, switched to Rx sublingual, then ended with homeopathic pellets. If I had to do it over again I'd go with pellets. And I'd cycle.

Do you know what causes it?

I was similar when I was pregnant. Forgetful, emotional, lost in my own world. But I'm afraid someone with more experience/knowledge of HCG will need to jump in with the medical details because I can only guess at the cause.

On my first P2 I fit the diet into my regular lifestyle and while it was doable, it wasn't 100% successful (too much travel slowed down weight loss, friends suffered and although they swear they didn't I was there too). For this P2 I've moved my life aside and made the diet a priority. The forgetfulness and wonky temperament are a part of why I made that decision.

I was really spacey my first week of R1P2--REALLY--although not quite as much as the original poster. I'm unemployed so I spent a lot of time on my sofa watching South Park. I didn't have the energy or concentration to read very much and I felt totally odd.

I'm sensitive to new things. I can take medications and have side effects not listed or common so I'm not surprised this happened to me. It eventually wore off and my body adapted, but I ended P2 with quite a few dizzy spells. One time, I almost really did pass out.

I think this diet is really hard on our bodies. I am going to give it quite some time before I do another round, even though I would like to get the next thirty off ASAP.

The symptoms your having are also consistent with hypoglycemia. Be really careful if you start to feel faint as well.

I felt faint my first round so I'm expecting the same this one too. You say "be really careful" but how do we go about that? Make sure to rest often? Have an orange?

Yes, it you start feeling faint, I'd have some fruit around to boost up your blood sugar. No diet is worth feeling weak and faint. I remember having a little cloudyheadedness on atkins, but nothing as severe as what she is describing, lol.

Thanks Rebecca. Last round I didn't exercise but this round I will and as feeling faint is not condusive to working out I need a workaround.

I never felt spacey on Atkins that I can remember but it was over 10 years ago now.

34 days on VLCD and I just stopped feeling spacey a few days ago. I also wonder what effects the fat burning has on our brains. Fat stores vitamins and perhaps even some toxins? This is all released into our bloodstream as fuel. Also are we used to processed foods and suffer a type of withdrawl when we switch to pure foods? Is it our bodies and brain adjusting to not having the quick supply of energy that simple carbs supply? How do our neurons respond to that? It is interesting to ponder these questions. Anyway at least in my experience things get better and you can concentrate more the farther along you get on the VLCD.

I agree, I'm on VLCD38 and it seems just within the last 2 weeks I could concentrate and actually do my job correctly once again - lol...
