Thread: Can you run on this diet?

Can you run on this diet?

Yes yes, I know exercise is frowned upon during the diet, but I run about 20 miles a week now to keep my big dogs happy and cardio in shape. Walking doesn't do nearly the same amount of good, and I really don't want to be sucking wind after a month.

So are there any runners out there that can give some tips?

This is the third year in a row my DH and I are going into this. Darn 8-10 lbs creep on no matter what over the course of a year. Our 40+ metabolism isn't so grand.

You certainly can! I did thru 2 rounds and will never stop just cuz I'm on p2! You'll have to just listen to your body really carefully. I found I had to lower my pace quite a bit to not bonk at mile 2. For ME, I found around mile 4 my body was DONE. Hit walls. I run 20-30 miles a week.

Thanks! Mile two is the mental threshold all the time. Lol

Do you add anymore calories or protein on running days? I find I can lose almost a pound a day on 750 calories v. 500,but this is my first time on this and running. The first time I did the diet, I was so strict at 500 calories, I literally had no energy and was completely lethargic. Slept the entire second week.

Any exercise your body is used to pre diet is usually ok to continue while on p2. We only discourage taking up a new exercise routine while on p2. And as caressa said, listen to your body and maybe slow your pace a bit. You shouldn't need to add calories.

The only time I added extra food, which was in the form of an extra serving of protein, is just on the days I ran. I always did a whey protein shake within 30 mins of my run, for recovery. I've always been a-ok with whey shakes on p2. Ymmv

I should also add I did those shakes when I ran for 45+ mins. If i went out for 2-3 miles (per my run club once a week) I didn't bother with them. This is just what I did. I guess I just felt more taxed after a 4+ mile run on p2.

There's a youtube vlogger who had similar experience as Caressa- she jogs/runs and she was able to continue I believe but also had to lower the length/intensity of it was all- her youtube name is hcgwannabeme I think- you might be able to get her perspective too.

Man I WISH I could keep up my exercise on P2 Caressa. sigh. I have some chronic health issues and I just can't handle any exercise on p2 even though I'm an avid crossfitter in regular life.

My run yesterday did me in. I was starving and my muscles had this weird ache to them. Stiff and sore..and I only ran two miles. Bummer.

ugh i didn't mean to "like" and "thank" your post of running frustration. I had some days like that too! One day my a** was kicked after a few miles and other days i was fine. I did have to play around with food timing too. I cannot run in a fasted state on p2. Any other phase...yes...p2...heck no. I found I did better after a meal and a snack a few hrs later THEN did my run (an hour after my snack) THEN ate an apple after my run to get sugar back into my muscles quickly.

i will have to check out that vlogger. That sucks you can't exercise in p2. . The good thing is p2 "only" lasts "a short time". I've never tried crossfit. I bet I'd love it!

Caressa- I took you advice on eating timing, still no dice. I made it exactly 1/2 mile before I about passed out. I walked another two, feeling horrible. I have lost a lot in one week, that might be the issue. My stall will, start next week and I should be fine then...I hope. I felt 80 years old out there today.

I know it does suck BUT like you said- it's only a few weeks and thankfully I've done it twice now where I had to take a break from crossfit but I found my strength came right back so it doesn't make me nervous anymore- but I certainly do still miss it! I'm so glad to see that there are many who can manage it though. You probably would if you're big on exercise- it's so varied and I've gotten so strong from it it's just crazy! I mean I used to be a size 8 at 130lbs at my height (5') and now I'm 130lbs but size 4 due to cycling hcg and crossfit.
