    Fat and the HCG diet

    Hey everyone!

First off, I'm purely curious for a source (not an opinion or what someone heard, please that explains *why* we don't eat fat on the HCG diet.

I do believe that the body enters into ketosis (burning fat for fuel) during HCG which is what contributes to the success of burning "abnormal fat".

Ketosis is not affected by consumption of dietary fat so I am curious as to why we avoid it on HCG when excess protein can?

Now, my best assumption (opinion, not fact) is that fat is more calorie dense and it is more important to keep the overall caloric intake down.

Just curious what everyone else has come across and if anyone has thought to ask about it.

If the answer simply is "We don't know and that's just the way we do things", then thats ok. Just say it.

PS.... Yes I've read Pounds and Inches, Weight Loss Apocalypse and HCG 2.0

Because Dr. S said so. That is why people do what they do

When I do protocol rounds I always hit huge stalls and when I hit them I add fat, a little mayo on my burger, a little sour cream etc. It always gets me moving again. Fat is not the enemy. Fat won't make us fat. Oils in our lotions won't effect our losses or stall us etc. But I am not a Dr. so.....

    Ha!!!

Thanks for that very honest response! It makes sense. I know some people have stated that fat stresses the hypothalamus, which needs to rest during this time, yet I've never read anything from a credible source that confirms that statement.

We probably will never know for sure what is going on. The reality is that unless people can make money off the results of a study, they are unlikely to pay for the research. The Simeons protocol is available for free sans the supplies. So that makes it uninteresting to researchers.

One thing you have to remember about the protocol is that is isn't a DIET. It's a hormonal protocol and he tested foods to find out which ones produced the hormonal response he wanted. As a test for a well known paleo friend, I tried a round with adding coconut oil. It was a colossal failure. Some can vary off the protocol as written but those of us for whom it was really designed, i.e. the obese who can not lose any other way, you simply can't vary it with success. Hcg is the only way I was ever able to lose weight and keep it off. And ketosis is not an important part of the hcg protocol. Some are in ketosis and some are not. I was never in ketosis. 2 fruits a day was way too many carbs for me to enter ketosis.

But for those who are not truly metabolically broken the way those of us he created it for are, just limiting calories that much can work. But not for us metabolically broken people.

You make a great point Leez.

There is a lot of unknowns to this protocol. I wish it would get the recognition it deserves and the legitimate studies done,

    Agree to disagree with ketosis

Unless you tested with blood ketone meters, there's no way to say you weren't actually in it. Considering you were able to lose a substantial amount of weight (congratulations by the way! 78 lbs is outstanding), means you had to burn the fat to lose it. Burning fat for fuel = ketosis

Being one of those metabolically broken people grammy talks about, I never veered from the protocol to try anything different. It was too important to me not to fail, as HCG was my last hope. I was never in ketosis either. I didn't test for it during HCG, but I know what ketosis feels like for me when I have tested for it, and it is bad. Dizziness, sleeplessness, massive fatigue, headaches and horrible bad breath. That can't mean good things were happening in my body. I'm glad we don't need to be in ketosis in HCG.

As for calories, my metabolism was so damaged by fasting and other crazy diets that if I ate more than 600 calories a day, I would gain. So something else is happening with HCG that allowed me to lose weight at the same calorie level that just maintained it before.

No we aren't agreeing to disagree. Ketosis is not part of hcg. Plenty of people lose weight on a high carb low fat diet. Are you trying to say they are in ketosis too? I'm the moderator on this forum. We have had 100,000 active members over the years, and I've spoken to the majority of them either here or on email and messages so I've seen it all. For those who are metabolically broken, they don't enter ketosis. They simply don't. In a perfect world, we probably would, but we are broken and this protocol works for us when nothing else does.
