Yes, that is correct. Too many carbs in them. Make sure you read Pounds and Inches.

Yes, the veg list is very limited. I miss mushrooms and broccoli the most, and zucchini.

Dr. S says he tried all kinds of foods and the ones on his list are the ones that work. We don't know why. It doesn't seem to be calories or carbs or fiber or sugar content. For some reasons, the limited foods just react best with the hormones and chemicals of the body and hcg, and the resetting of the brain. Some people do just fine eating other vegetables, but some people don't. The only way to know is to try them and then see if you have trouble stabilizing in P3/P4.

    Confused

I am beginning R1 phase 1 on Monday....waiting for hCG. The list I got from the online pharma I ordered from had lots of fruits and veggies and included mushrooms and cauliflower....among many others. I know originally the food list was VERY limited but I thought there was an "expanded" version to include basically all veggies and most fruits. Can you tell me where to get an approved phase 2 food list so I don't mess up right out of the gate?

rmc1989, many companies have "improved" the original diet. Most of the improvements don't work. You can read the original version of this protocol here: http://hcgdietinfo.com/HCG_Diet_Simeons_Manuscript.htm

The only fruit allowed is an apple, an orange, a half grapefruit or a handful of strawberries. The allowed vegetables are mostly leafy greens, onions, asparagus, and tomatoes, but a complete list is included in the P&I manuscript.

I try to look at it this way. There are foods I am really missing, however, it is not forever. I will eventually beable to eat these foods again. And some of them in P3. I only have to get thru 30 days of eating a limited amount of food. I just have to be a bit more inventive in how I prepare them.

I started this diet a week ago. I know "me", and if I am stuck eating the same foods day after day, I'm off the diet no matter HOW much weight they promise I will lose. So, I've not been avoiding the mushrooms, zucchini, summer squash, and other veggies. At the same time, I've really kicked up the exercise. Maybe my 5 pounds in 5 days isn't the same "wow" factor that some people have experienced, but for ME ?? I'm thrilled-to-death over the moon happy. So I say if you are ready to cheat because you can stand the thought of eating that spinach yet again, try a TINY bit of variety and then keep your eye on your weight. If no drastic movement up, then your body is okay with it.

On a side note - THANK YOU to all who are posting recipes! Can't wait to try the taco and the chili ones.

Sorry, but that's not good advice, lucky. This protocol is not a diet--it's a hormonal protocol. Any alteration can derail the main benefit of it--the resting of the hypothalamus. It's not about short term weight loss--it's about getting the weight to stay off.

There are 13 original vegetable choices so you don't have to eat the same thing every day. You can go almost a whole week without repeating a vegetable.

spinach, chard, chicory, beet greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, cabbage.

The above list is pretty limited and eating an onion as my one serving of "Vegetable" ??? Ugh. I'm not saying to stuff yourself silly with the "other" things that people have asked about (broccoli, mushrooms) but goodness, is it that traumatic to have a mushroom or two to change at the same old salad? I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone here, just seriously questioning things. There ARE other veggies that are listed on the HCG diet website. Are they just for the next phase? (after weight loss)

There is only one REAL protocol, the original. It's the tried and true version that works for everyone. the protocol says this:

The most tiresome patients are those who start counting calories and then come up with all manner of ingeniousvariations which they compile from their little books. When one has spent years of weary research trying to makea diet as attractive as possible without jeopardizing the loss of weight, culinary geniuses who are out to improvetheir unhappy lot are hard to take.

And this: Every item in the list is gone over carefully, continually stressing the point that no variations other than thoselisted may be introduced. All things not listed are forbidden, and the patient is assured that nothing permissiblehas been left out.
