    Saving money on prescription Hcg....

I just had a new message left for me on my Nu Image review page:

"Hi Jen! Your site is so informative and helpful, thank you.
I just filled out apapplication for HCG with NU! I’m excited because I just paid $900 to my dr for 6 weeks of hcg and only lost 1 pound!!

Quick question about Nu. Do you have to go get blood work done before they send you hcg? And how much weight have you lost using Nu?
    Thank again ,

    Christen."

This was my response, in case it helps anyone else in the same boat:

    "HI Christen!

Sadly, I hear this all the time and I’m so sorry you had that experience. The sad truth is, most local doctors and clinics honestly don’t know how the diet works, so they vary it to meet “traditional” standards…. and then charge you a fortune to NOT lose weight! If it wasn’t so sad, it would be funny.

I’m glad you are on track now though! Nu Image has excellent quality Hcg and their kits are really nice; they include everything and it’s all accurate supplies so you don’t need to buy anything else. My last round, I lost 26 pounds of post-baby weight.

One thing to take note though: they start everyone at 200iu dosage. While some people do just fine with this, a lot of people end up having to lower their dosage or they find themselves ravenously hungry. There are articles here on the site for this, and also in the Newcomer’s section of the forums. If you do find yourself needing to adjust your dosage, Grammy (our chief-ninja moderator) has some excellent tutorials and can offer guidance in the forums. In fact, if you haven’t joined already, I highly recommend you do- we have a really supportive community of Hcg Dieters there, and lots of veterans to help keep you on track and answer questions. Oh, and feel free to say hi to me there!"

I'm also co-writing a post on the Costs of Hcg and How to Save Money. That should be up this week, along with some new posts from Leez, at her Hcg Diet coaching blog here.

My doctor recommends a super high dose, too, but he'll give you diet pills with it to control appetite. I tried explaining to him that simply using a lower dose would eliminate the need for appetite suppressants and make people lose weight better, but he just sort of gave me a blank stare. Not listening or understanding, obviously. Oh well, he's a good doctor usually and he doesn't really oversee the part of the practice that handles the hcg...he's more of a thyroid/adrenal/fibromyalgia doctor. The P2 and P3 food lists are insane. I'm glad I was an hcg "expert" before I met him.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry you had to go through that- both of you!

I had to actually add something to my Hcg Buying Guide that touched on the high dosage factor. I wish more doctors would read these forums and see just what that high dosage results in. It seems that every doctor has their own approach to the diet in the first place, and it's rarely the Simeons original protocol. Then on top of that, they have the "more is best" approach when it comes to dosage. It really sets people up for a failed (and pricey) round.

The worst are the local weight loss clinics. So many of them have their own "low fat diet" protocols with 1 or 2 x weekly shots or drops that don't have Hcg. I have called around LA to so many clinics offering an Hcg diet program- Not ONE offered the original protocol, nor did they know much about it.

When I was speaking with the owner of one of the clinics, she was bragging that they have this HUGE return-client ratio. "People come back 2 or 3 times a year because they know they can lose the weight with us since it worked before." She was very proud of this- but my thinking was, "um, why aren't they keeping the weight off?" I asked what their maintenance program was- they didn't have one. So... $1200 for their 6 week "hcg weight loss program." This included their food list and guidelines that were "weight watchers inspired" (which we all know doesn't work), weekly shots or drops, and no post-weight loss strategy. Ouch.
