Thread: Is glycerin allowed?

    Is glycerin allowed?

I have been using a product that contains glycerin and I'm not sure it's acceptable on protocol. I tried the baby oil and I absolutely cannot use it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Glycerin in cosmetics is fine in P2.

What about in a body lotion? I read that Fragrance Free Curel is ok to use since it is oil free. It has glycerin in it though, so I'm just checking.

A body lotion is a cosmetic, so yes, its fine.

A lot of people use Corn Huskers lotion, glycerine-based bar soaps, etc.

Interesting. Cosmetics only? I use a B12 supplement that I take orally. It contains glycerin. Have you heard of this company before? I've used some of their others and they've all been high quality.

Its fine in your supplements too. Its a tiny amount and is not going to be an issue for that reason. It might be a problem if you started using it as a sweetener.

Little bits of rice starch or other things with food value found in supplements are usually not a problem in supplements either. You wouldn't want to be taking handfuls of fish oil capsules though.

Excellent. I thought I might have been missing out on some more losses. Thanks!

If a company uses glycerin in its product, e.g. in toothpaste or mouthwash, can we use it if according to the company any animal by-product used is chemically altered during manufacturing and no longer resembles the original substance by the time it’s added to the product? The company says that they have no way to telling what their source of glycerin is. It could be vegetable based or animal based, in which case it could be either pork or beef. So am I allowed to use such toothpaste or mouthwash which contain glycerin?

Yes, it's fine. You are not ingesting it. Its only in your mouth for a short time then you spit it out.

Its the same principle with hair products. You are not going to stall from those either, because you wash them out after a short time.

It is mainly a common sense choice when it comes to personal products. If it stays on or in your body longer than a couple minutes, avoid those that contain oils or other suspect ingredients.

I just use hair coloring gloves when applying them in P2, but I still use my normal products on my hair since the absorbency is very minimal during washing, and does not affect my losses. Unless you are applying oil-based products to your scalp for leave in purposes, they shouldn't have that much of an effect.
