WOW - it sure SOUNDS like my issue, doesn't it? Scary. I did have a meter and lent it to my SIL, never to be seen again.

So, is there a too-low reading or do you just want to make sure it's not too high? I'm probably oversimplifying and need to read up...

I would do this for a few days and chart what the readings are. Here are some of the symptoms of pre diabetes and diabetes....

Skin rashes, big weight fluctuations overnight, swelling or tingling in legs, unable to feel minor pain in leg areas, dark patches under arms or behind neck.
When I was diagnosed with type II a few years ago, I took a 3 month class on management and it really helped me to understand what was going on.
This may NOT be your issue at all, but it may be worth checking into.... hope this info helps!

Claire-- on the diabetes issue.... I think you are right, that now is not the time to do a complete blood work up with a doc.. hcg will affect the outcome of that. One thing I would do is get a blood glucose meter and strips (you can generally get a meter free online) the strips can be a little pricey, so do some research on those before you get the meter. I have heard that Walmart carries a meter and strips that are pretty fair priced. I would start checking your fasting bg.. should be 83 or lower... then check again 2 hours after eating... should be between 135-140. Now, since you are P2, you might get lower readings...
