Occasionally, it is necessary to wrap things up, and stop the Hcg Diet protocol early. It is, however, important to research how to do this properly. Let’s cover the reasons why this could happen, and how to go about it.
The HCG diet works best when you follow all the rules: Two days loading, at least 21 additional dose days and not more than 40 dose days. There are ways to lengthen the time you are on the very low calorie part of the diet, but no real safe, effective way to shorten it to less than the 23 dose days. Doing so puts you at risk for not being able to stabilize, as the hypothalamus has not had enough time to rest. 23 doses is the minimum time needed for you body to be able to successfully drop your set point to your new lower weight.
That being said, there are circumstances where you may find you have to cut your round short without completing the 23 dose minimum. Some examples would be illness, onset of pregnancy, or loss of HCG availability. If something happens that prevents you from continuing before you’ve reached the 23 dose minimum, there are a couple of things you can do to minimize the regain that will occur. You can’t expect to keep all the progress you’ve made, but you can slow down any regains and possibly not end up higher than you were when you started.
The most helpful thing you can do is transition as if you had finished your round and move into Phase 3 eating. Do your best to avoid fats until the HCG is out of your system if you can. (48 hours for homeopathic hhcg or 72 hours for RX HCG) Going forward, avoid starches and sugars for the next 3 weeks, focusing on whole foods as much as possible. Concentrate on chosing good fats like avocado, coconut and olive oils, so that you will feel satisfied and will not be tempted to overeat. That will help control calories to prevent a wild and precipitous weight gain.
Work on getting your elimination back to normal as it adjusts to increased bulk, and keep drinking enough water. A daily walk will help massage your guts back into normal action, and also has a calming effect on all that anxiety you will be feeling about regaining. Do the best you can, and try again another time when you are confident you will be able to commit to the full protocol.
